James D. Peterson serves as the Chief United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. In 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Peterson to become a federal judge. The United States Senate confirmed his position in May 2014. He took over a seat in Madison, Wisconsin. A few years later, in 2017, he became the Chief Judge of the court.
